The Installation Process

How Long Does a Roof Installation Last in NC?

A properly installed roof in North Carolina should last 25–50 years depending on the material, ventilation, and quality of installation. But here's what most homeowners don't realize: the lifespan of your roof has less to do with the shingles on top and everything to do with what happens underneath them. Know what each layer does — and what to watch for when a contractor cuts corners.

Step by Step

What a Proper Installation Looks Like

Every NC Farmer Roofing installation follows the same proven sequence — no shortcuts, no skipped layers. Here's exactly what happens from the moment our crew arrives to the final nail sweep of your yard.

01

Dumpster Placement

A roll-off dumpster is placed on-site to collect all old roofing materials throughout the day.

02

Property Protection

Tarps are laid around the perimeter of the home to catch nails, debris, and protect landscaping during tear-off.

03

Tear Off

All existing shingles, underlayment, and flashing are stripped down to the bare roof deck, exposing the plywood.

04

Plywood Inspection

Every sheet of decking is inspected by hand. Any soft, rotted, or damaged plywood is replaced before anything goes on top of it.

05

Ice & Water Shield

A self-adhering waterproof membrane is installed in the valleys, eaves, and any vulnerable penetrations — the last line of defense against water intrusion.

06

Underlayment

A high-performance synthetic underlayment (the blue sheeting you see) is rolled across the entire roof deck, providing a secondary moisture barrier beneath the shingles.

07

Drip Edge

Metal drip edge is installed along all eaves and rakes to direct water away from the fascia and into the gutters.

08

Shingles

CertainTeed shingles are installed course by course from the bottom up, nailed to manufacturer specs for wind resistance and warranty compliance.

09

Ridge Vents

Continuous ridge vents are installed at the peak to allow hot air to escape the attic, extending shingle life and improving energy efficiency.

10

Clean Up

The crew performs a full magnetic nail sweep of the yard, hauls away the dumpster, and leaves the property cleaner than they found it.
